How coins, chapter tests and badges work on beMahan

Silver coins for lessons really watched, gold coins for the first try of a chapter test, streaks and badges, and why none of it can be farmed.

The beMahan team

Children love collecting things. We use that, gently, to celebrate the two habits that matter most: watching lessons properly and testing yourself honestly.

Silver coins: for lessons really watched

Each lesson pays 10 silver coins, once, when your child has watched about 80% of it.

While the video plays, the page sends a small “still watching” signal every few seconds. Our server checks that the video really moved forward at a believable speed. That means:

  • Watching at normal speed, or up to 2× speed, counts.
  • Jumping to the end, replaying the same minute ten times, or leaving a paused video in a hidden tab does not count.

Nothing is decided in the browser, so there is no button to press and no trick to find.

Gold coins: for the first try of a chapter test

At the end of each chapter there is a short question paper, usually 10 questions. It looks like a real school paper, with no timer, so read calmly.

Score on the first try Gold coins
Full marks 50
80% or more 40
60% or more 25
40% or more 10

Only the first try earns gold. After handing in, your child sees every question, their answer, the right answer and a one-line explanation. Retakes are welcome and their scores are saved, but they are practice and pay no gold. That keeps the gold honest: it shows what was learnt, not what was remembered from the answer sheet.

A few fair-play rules work quietly in the background:

  • The answers are never sent to the browser before the paper is handed in.
  • Questions and options come in a fresh random order every time.
  • A paper finished impossibly fast is not marked; your child is asked to take their time.

Streaks and badges

A day streak counts the days in a row on which your child finished a lesson or a test. There are also badges to collect, such as the first chapter test, full marks, 5 and 25 chapters done, 10 and 50 lessons watched, and streaks of 3, 7 and 30 days.

Everything is shown in your child’s wallet: the coin jars, the badge sheet, a report card of every chapter test, and a coin diary of what was earned and when.

What coins are not

  • They cannot be bought. beMahan has no payments and no ads.
  • They are not a ranking of children. There is no public leaderboard.
  • They are not the goal. They are a pat on the back for showing up.

If your child is chasing coins by rushing, sit with them for one lesson and one test. The rules are designed so that the fastest way to earn is simply to learn.

Questions parents ask

How many gold coins can my child get for a chapter test?

On the first try: 50 gold coins for full marks, 40 for 80% or more, 25 for 60% or more, and 10 for 40% or more. Every later try is practice: the score is saved, but no more gold.

Why only gold on the first try?

After the first try your child sees the right answers. Paying gold again would reward remembering the answers, not learning the chapter. The first try shows what they really know.

How are silver coins earned?

By watching a lesson to roughly the end, at normal or up to double speed, in an open tab. Skipping ahead, leaving a paused video or playing the same part again does not add up.

Can coins be bought or exchanged for money?

No. beMahan is free and has no shop or payments. Coins are a scoreboard of effort, nothing more.

What is a day streak?

The number of days in a row your child finished a lesson or a chapter test. Missing a day starts the count again, and the best streak is remembered.
